Starbucks Opens Iconic Store in Chinatown with Heritage Charm and Local Flavours

Starbucks Singapore has officially opened its latest and most iconic store at 37 Smith Street, right in the heart of Chinatown. This two-storey flagship location is the first in Singapore to be housed within a restored heritage shophouse, just a short three-minute walk from Chinatown MRT.

The space is more than a coffee stop—it’s a thoughtful tribute to local culture and tradition. Featuring artwork and craftsmanship by local talents, including a striking Chinese calligraphy and wood carving signboard crafted by Yong Gallery, the store blends old-world elegance with the modern Starbucks experience. Singapore-born artist Tiffany Lovage also lends her vibrant style to the interior, with murals that reflect both Yunnan’s coffee origins and Chinatown’s historical richness.

Visitors will find seating that draws inspiration from void deck chess tables, as well as a curated retail area featuring exclusive merchandise, including collaborations with local artists such as JunleFont. A life-sized Merlion Bearista greets guests within, adding a playful touch to the store’s welcoming atmosphere.

As part of its tribute to heritage, the Smith Street store introduces a series of store-exclusive beverages that celebrate local flavours. Highlights include the Black Sesame Oatmilk Coffee Frappuccino with Soy Pudding, a creamy fusion of black sesame and coffee layered over soft soy pudding, and the Yuan Yang Coffee Frappuccino, combining the boldness of coffee with hojicha and chocolate chips.

Assorted desserts and drinks on a table: green tea cake, chocolate roll, pastries, and Starbucks frappuccinos with whipped cream, warm tone.

To complete the experience, Starbucks continues its collaboration with heritage brand Old Seng Choong, unveiling new snacks such as the XL Chicken Char Siew Puff, Coffee Egg Tart, and the Pandan Chiffon Cake. A selection of sweet treats, including the Java Chip Frappuccino Swiss Roll and Lychee Swiss Roll, reflect both tradition and innovation.
