Singapore continues to enhance its public transportation network with the opening of seven additional stations on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL). This expansion, which took place on June 23, 2024, is a significant step towards improving connectivity and reducing travel time across the island.
The newly inaugurated MRT stations—Tanjong Rhu, Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, Marine Terrace, Siglap and Bayshore — extend the TEL deeper into the eastern regions of Singapore. These stations not only provide residents with more commuting options but also enhance accessibility to key recreational and cultural sites.
The addition of these seven stations marks a major milestone in Singapore's efforts to create a seamless and efficient transportation network. It underscores Singapore's commitment to enhancing connectivity for its citizens and supporting sustainable urban development.

Commuters can now enjoy a direct and efficient route from the eastern parts of Singapore to the city center and beyond. The new stations are strategically located to serve densely populated residential areas, business districts, and tourist attractions. For instance, the Marine Parade station is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the area and provide a faster alternative to buses and cars.
The Gardens by the Bay and Marina Barrage stations are poised to become popular stops for both locals and tourists, offering easy access to these iconic attractions. The Founders’ Memorial station, once completed, will also serve as a gateway to the upcoming memorial that honors Singapore's pioneer leaders, further integrating the country’s rich history with its modern transit system.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has ensured that the new stations are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including barrier-free access, spacious platforms, and enhanced safety features. Environmental sustainability has also been a priority, with energy-efficient systems implemented throughout the new stations.
Moreover, the extension of Singapore MRT's TEL line supports its vision of becoming a car-lite city by encouraging more residents to use public transport. With these new additions, the TEL now covers a total of 20 stations, significantly enhancing the network’s reach and efficiency.
