This special exhibit traces the rise of plastic in the 20th century, examines its environmental consequences, and showcases innovative solutions for sustainable use. Visitors can explore the exhibition for free during its closing weekend on 22–23 June 2024.
The exhibition is divided into three engaging sections:
Kalpa: This immersive film installation by Asif Khan contrasts the slow formation of oil with the rapid production of plastic waste, providing a thought-provoking perspective on the origins and lifecycle of plastic.
Synthetica, Petromodernity, and Plasticene: This section covers the evolution of plastics, from early natural and synthetic forms to their global dominance today. It highlights significant design movements and the changing perceptions of plastic from the mid-19th century to the present.
Re-: Focused on achieving a circular plastic economy, this final section aims to inspire sustainable practices. It includes an outdoor sorting zone where visitors can learn about different types of plastic and an injection machine that repurposes waste plastic into functional household items.
