Nespresso has teamed up with French startup Zèta to create RE:GROUND, an eco-friendly sneaker line made with coffee!

Two years ago, French startup Zèta set out to disrupt the shoe industry by transforming coffee grounds into sneakers. After a year of research and development, RE:GROUND was born. This innovative sneaker line is crafted from 80% recycled and upcycled materials, with Nespresso coffee grounds incorporated into the vegan leather, outsole, and insole, making these shoes a unique blend of sustainability and innovation.

Handcrafted in Portugal, each pair is produced using 80% recycled and sustainable materials, including the grounds from 12 Nespresso espressos.
How Are RE:GROUND Sneakers Made With Coffee?

Coffee Material: 15% coffee grounds, 50% cotton, 35% water-based PU.
Upper: A pesticide-free, bio-based PU mix made from 73% cereal-derived materials and 27% recycled polyester (including 50% corn).
Laces: 100% recycled plastic.
Insole: 10% coffee grounds and 90% recycled cork.
Outsole: 10% coffee grounds and 90% recycled rubber.
Glue: Recovered latex.
Packaging: Recovered jute bags, with a flyer made from 30% recycled paper and 15% organic coffee residue.

The sneakers are carefully assembled by a dedicated team of artisans in a Portuguese family workshop, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship.
