In a Facebook announcement on Wednesday (Jun 19), Cathay Cineplexes revealed, "As our lease comes to an end, our last day of operations will be Jun 30, 2024." They assured moviegoers that screenings would continue uninterrupted until the closing date.

This impending closure will leave Cathay Cineplexes with five remaining outlets across Singapore, located at Causeway Point, Downtown East, West Mall, JEM, and Century Square. The company reassured patrons, stating, "There will be no disruption of services at the other Cathay Cineplexes outlets in Singapore," and hinted at future expansions with, "Stay tuned for exciting news on our new outlets coming up."

The AMK Hub cinema, which first opened on June 16, 2007, boasts eight movie halls and a seating capacity of 1,800. As a final gesture to its loyal patrons, Cathay Cineplexes is offering discounted standard tickets at S$10 from now until the closure date, down from the usual price range of S$11 to S$16.50.

This closure is part of a broader trend in the cinema industry, reflecting changing consumer habits and challenges posed by the digital age of Netflix and Youtube. Nonetheless, Cathay Cineplexes remains committed to providing quality entertainment at their remaining locations and promises new developments in the near future.
