'Anyhow Seat' by The Merry Men Works at Singapore Design Week 2024

The Anyhow Seat by The Merry Men Works brings a fresh and playful approach to public seating at Singapore Design Week 2024.

Showcased in the Marina Central Design District as part of the Singapore Design Week 2024, 'Anyhow Seat' invites visitors to interact with seating in a fun and dynamic way. Rather than being fixed in one place, the Anyhow Seat allows users to pop out individual seats from one socket and plug them into another, enabling people to create their own customized social spaces. This flexible design not only promotes interaction but also reflects the fluid nature of urban living.

Beyond its playful concept, the Anyhow Seat champions sustainability through its innovative use of eco-friendly materials. The Merry Men Works has collaborated with local partners to ensure that each element of the seat has minimal environmental impact. The seating is made from recycled wood sourced from The Merry Men's own carpentry scraps, 100% recycled plastic by Robries, and eco-friendly bricks and tiles from Loqa, which incorporate over 85% recycled fly ash, glass, and ceramics. This thoughtful use of materials aligns with the broader themes of sustainability highlighted throughout Singapore Design Week.

Positioned at the Millennia Walk Linkbridge, the Anyhow Seat creates a welcoming environment where visitors can engage with both the design and each other. The installation not only highlights the importance of rethinking public spaces but also encourages people to reflect on their role in sustainable living. The combination of interactive design and sustainable materials makes Anyhow Seat a standout feature of this year’s festival.

Come by and "anyhow sit" as you explore the creativity and innovation at the heart of Singapore’s design scene.
